Twice as robust: SCHOTT Poly 185 double glass module provides electricity for longer

  • Sustainably stable yields, resistant to environmental influences
  • Effective use of roof space, easy to install
  • New powerhouse available from April

Mainz, Germany, 16 March 2011 – SCHOTT Solar is launching a new multicrystalline module manufactured using unique double-glass technology. Just recently, the company presented a highlight from the new generation of double-glass modules, in the shape of the SCHOTT ASI. Now, the new SCHOTT Poly 185 is underlining once more the German solar manufacturer’s high quality standards. Thanks to its use of glass on both the front and rear sides, this new, long-life powerhouse is more resistant to environmental influences and particularly robust against stormy conditions, snow and ice – SCHOTT Solar vouches for this with its 30-year linear performance guarantee. The new module will be available from April 2011.

The SCHOTT Poly 185 is based on the SCHOTT Poly 290, which came out on top in an independent PV+ test conducted by TÜV Rheinland and Solarpraxis AG with a rating of “very good (-)”. Its new, compact, 48-cell successor makes maximum use of even small roof spaces. Good news for solar engineers: this type of module is quick and simple to install. On top of this, the increased reverse current resistance makes the module easier to wire.

For its unique double-glass technology, SCHOTT Solar has developed a patented production process which dispenses with the need to apply high pressure or use vacuum and so is gentler on the cells and boosts the module’s quality and long-term stability. This high-end solar module is produced to very high quality standards and is extremely resistant to environmental influences and severe weather conditions thanks to its additional sheet of glass on the rear side. The glass doesn’t just keep rain off, but also protects the module from condensation, vapour, gases such as ammonia or methane, many acids and bases, as well as fats, oils and solvents. These have no way of entering the module’s active cell layer – unlike with conventional glass foil modules.

The SCHOTT Poly 185 module is also perfectly equipped to deal with pressure and suction effects from wind, stormy conditions, snow and ice. The carrying capacity per module, as confirmed by IEC certification and by TÜV, is 5,400 Pa, corresponding to snow load zone 3, wind load zone 4, and wind speed of up to 200 km/h, with a safety factor of 3. The SCHOTT Poly 185 module will be available to purchase from April 2011.
