CSR

In underdeveloped areas a reliable electricity grid often does not exist. In many cases these regions have an above-average level of sun irradiance and offer ideal conditions for solar power. Therefore, SCHOTT Solar supports important development projects by donating and installing a solar power installation which guarantees a reliable electricity supply. Whatever the future holds.

2008 – Hospital ward in Senegal

Hospital ward in Senegal

SCHOTT Solar has installed a 5 KW solar electric system in a rural hospital ward in Baila in the southern Senegalese province Casamance. This installation provides the electricity supply for cooling medicine and operating medical devices. The power blackouts which had occurred several times daily are now a thing of the past.

The electricity from the solar power modules is permanently stored in special batteries. If the electricity network breaks down, the system automatically switches to battery operation, continuing to supply the ward without interruptions. As well as donating the solar infrastructure, SCHOTT Solar also made the electrical installation and carried out the technical approvals.

2006 – Light for Tanzania

Light for Tanzania

A 30 KW solar electric installation is delivering the electricity for the "Maria Malkia" mission station for the Benedictine monks in Kilimahewa (Tanzania) since June 2006. The new installation provides electricity for all areas of the mission station – including water pumps, workshops, the kindergarten, school and church – with a certainty of 95%. The prior installation, also from SCHOTT Solar, has an output of five KW and is only used for the hospital ward. The new solar power station, one of the largest in Tanzania, was financed by donations (the “Light for Tanzania” project). SCHOTT Solar paid the entire project planning cost.

PV CYCLE

PV-CYCLE

If old solar installations are replaced by new ones, the raw material can be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner. SCHOTT Solar attaches a certain importance to the systematic recycling of old solar electric modules and is therefore an active member of PV cycle. The association was founded by the companies AVANCIS, Conergy, Isofoton, Solar World, Sulfurcell, EPIA, BSW and SCHOTT Solar in 2007 and aims at implementing a worldwide concept for the recycling of old modules.
