Development start for photovoltaic solar cells for space travel (AEG)

1964

Development and production of silicon solar cells for terrestrial applications (AEG)

1973

Development of the EFG® solar cell (Mobil Tyco)

1978

First series production of solar electricity modules in Europe (AEG in Wedel)

1980

Development of the thin film solar cells at MBB (ASI™)

1983

Delivery of glass enveloped tubes for parabolic through Concentrated Solar power plants to the first Concentrated Solar Power plant (SCHOTT AG)

1992

Start of series production of MIS-I solar cells (NUKEM, Alzenau)
Innovation award of German economy

1998

Start of solar production for crystalline solar cells (ASE GmbH)

2001

SCHOTT AG purchases an US system integrator

2002

Formation of the joint venture RWE SCHOTT Solar

Production start for the Smart-SolarFab® (fully integrated production) in Alzenau

Development of receivers for solar power stations by SCHOTT Rohrglas GmbH

2004

Establishment of a production site for modules in Valašské Mezirící in the Czech Republic

Worldwide first megawatt PV power station (2 MW) in Neustadt

2005

100% takeover of RWE SCHOTT Solar by SCHOTT AG, Mainz

2006

Start of receiver production in Mitterteich
Production of first silicon ingots at SCHOTT Lithotec AG in Jena
Dedication of the Stillwell subway station (NY, USA) with BIPV thin film modules

2007

Foundation of WACKER SCHOTT Solar GmbH in Jena for the production of silicon wafers
Start of series production of ASI™ thin film modules in Jena
Foundation of SCHOTT Solarthermie GmbH (now SCHOTT Solar CSP GmbH) in Mainz and SCHOTT Solar S.L. in Aznalcóllar, Spain, for the production of solar receivers

2008

Foundation stone laid for the new locations for the production of solar receivers and solar electricity modules in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and extension of the receiver production in Aznalcóllar, Spain
Development cooperation with ersol Thin Film GmbH for the development of micromorphous thin film cells
