Winner of the TÜV Rheinland’s Energy Yield Test - SCHOTT Solar Module has the best energy yield

SCHOTT Solar – the name itself represents first class quality, stability of performance and high energy yields on which you can rely. This has yet again been confirmed by TÜV. In the Energy Yield Test conducted by TÜV Rheinland the SCHOTT PERFORM™ POLY 225 photovoltaic module achieved first place and once more demonstrated SCHOTT Solar’s expertise in the field of design and development.

A total of 13 modules were compared with one another in the year long test. What is special about the Energy Yield Test is that the decisive factors are not testing in an environmental test chamber measuring the performance using a solar simulator, but it is the actual energy yield that decides which module occupies the top position at the end of the test.

As the relationship between inverters and modules cannot be measured accurately and various interactions take place, the TÜV Rheinland developed its own setup to provide very precise measurements. Electrical loads are used to automatically maintain the individual modules at the MPP (maximum power point) during the test.

To ensure that none of the participants was disadvantaged, TÜV Rheinland only included those values taken when all the modules being tested were at the MPP. A key figure was the yield per watt peak power measured by TÜV Rheinland under standard test conditions. This relative measurement also offers a particularly low level of overall uncertainty in the range between +1% and -1.5%. This must however still be taken into consideration when comparing the results from all the participants.

Other product characteristics are important for obtaining high energy yields under actual operating conditions. For example the SCHOTT PERFORM™ POLY 225 achieving positive results at low light intensities is particularly important when the radiation being received is not perfect. Solar modules from SCHOTT Solar also provide high energy yields in the mornings and evenings, in winter when the sun is low and also when the sky is overcast.

The temperature coefficient of the modules was another decisive factor in the victory, because a low temperature coefficient permits a high level of modular efficiency, even at high temperatures. This ensures high yields of current when there is a large amount of solar radiation in summer.
